Hat of the Month

Worn by a television celebrity to a high profile Nigerian charity event earlier this year, our September Hat of the month is name Eunice like it’s beauty owner. It was made from bias cut sinamay which has been dyed fuchsia. The edges are rolled and the hat is trimmed with a sinamay rose and a mixture of goose shaped ostrich and coque feathers. Its creator Olushola Christine Adeyanju is working hard to make a name for herself in the millinery world…

Where did you learn Hat making?

I recently had one day of intensive training with Kathrine Elizabeth Millinery at her new store in the Oxo Tower Wharf in London. Before this, I have been making Hats and Facinators for close to 15 years as a hobby I inherited  from my elder sister. I didn’t take it seriously  until now even though  I used to knit, crotchet and draw from the age of 7. Everyone in my household had more than one handcraft – gifted hands we call it.

At Christine’s Atelier Millinery, Accessories and Product Design, we work with all kinds of fabrics and embellishments manipulating them into clients’ desired designs and we are open to exploring new ideas and innovation. Our original bespoke and couture pieces are produced in Lagos, Nigeria. We have a website – www.christinesatelier.com. We also have a stockist and are looking to expand into new territories soon. We are seeking opportunities to promote sales and brand recognition.

Was this made for a special event?

This Hat was made for my client Eunice, who is a Hello Africa show host on Ebony Life (a private Nigerian TV channel), who wore it to the Mothers’ Day Big Hat Brunch in May. This event is run every year by  Run For A Cure Africa,a breast cancer awareness, prevention and care foundation.
